CHICAGO (WLS) -- The 6th grade CEO behind Felix's Famous Cookies is the king of cookies. The CEO has now expanded his empire at the young age of 11. He took his grandmother's recipe for the polvoron and created his own company.
"We were baking them at home when we were first starting as a hobby then when we started doing it as a business we had to go to commercial kitchen but we were just starting out so we went to a shared kitchen. Then from that, now we're here," Felix Castillo said.
Felix and his mother Laura are Co-CEOs and have now opened a manufacturing facility in Mundelein, Ill. Right now, the cookies are sold exclusively online, but demand is high.
"Really it's like a dream come true. I never thought we would be here just a few short years later. It felt like just yesterday I was baking out of my home and now we're here and it's just such a dream come true and such an honor," Laura Castillo said.
The new all-Hispanic run facility is churning out about 3,000 cookies a day.
"It's just something out that Hispanic mom in you that loves to cherish the flavors of our culture," she said. "And they know that integrity of the cookie that needs to be in there with every batch that comes out."
Each month, Felix's Famous Cookies makes a donation to a different charity.
"It's just another way to honor Grandma Tony's memory because she was that giving person. Not only has that sharing our culture with other people truly embodied who grandma tony was. So we are so excited to continue the tradition of giving back in her name," Castillo said.
This month, 10 percent of the proceeds will go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
They are also rolling out a new pumpkin spice flavor this week.
