CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Bella Cuisine Kids Cooking Club is a CPS after school program in its 6th year. The brain child of a CPS mom, Latrice McArthur, the program began after she was in the schools teaching kids about healthy eating through Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" initiative. She saw the need and created the cooking club, which serves at risk kids on the south and west sides of the city.
This year, Latrice partnered with the Chicago Police Department to create "Cooking with Cops" - a way for students to interact with local police, and see them in a different light. The program culminates this Saturday with their first ever "Pop-Up Restaurant." The kids in the cooking club are broken out into 2 teams - and each team will create a 3 course menu that will be judged by local dignitaries. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $40 and includes a three course brunch made by the students.
