March of Dimes supporters wear purple for 'World Prematurity Day'

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Tuesday is "World Prematurity Day" and people are wearing purple to promote awareness about premature births, which is the No. 1 cause of death in children under the age of 5.

Buildings around the globe will also glow purple for prematurity awareness

November marks Prematurity Awareness Month.

The March of Dimes has invested millions at its Prematurity Research Centers, including one in Chicago.
