CHICAGO (WLS) -- New guidelines from the World Health Organizations suggest doctors should limit the number of C-sections. WHO recommends that countries should not exceed rates of 10 to 15 percent.
Harvard and Stanford researchers say rates could be a little higher, up to 19 percent.
In the United States, about 1/3 of births are done by C-section, far higher than the recommendation.
The World Health Organization did not make any recommendations about when C-section is best, urging women to make that determination by talking to their doctor.
