16-year-old boy dead, 18-year-old man injured in Englewood shooting

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 16-year-old boy was killed and an 18-year-old man was critically wounded in a shooting in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood.

Police said the two teens were standing outside in the 7300-block of South Sangamon Street around 4:45 p.m. Monday when a male they did not know walked up to them, opened fire and ran away. The gunman was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

The 16-year-old boy was shot in the head. He died at the scene. His identity has not been released.

The 18-year-old man was shot in the shoulder. He was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where his condition stabilized.

No one is in custody. Area South detectives are investigating.
