CHICAGO (WLS) -- Two veteran Chicago police officers have been suspended pending the outcome of an investigation involving child pornography and prostitution, according to ABC7 sources.

Sources say two veteran police officers - each of them with more than 10 years of experience - have been suspended. There are possibly more officers involved in the case.

The case began when inappropriate images with juvenile girls were discovered, according to ABC7 sources. It's unclear how many girls are involved or any of their ages at this point.

The scope of the investigation involves child pornography and prostitution during the last couple of months. At this point, it's not known where those two officers worked.

The president of the Fraternal Order of Police said if the officers are union members and face charges, the FOP would not pay the legal bills.

"We protect that fund and there are guidelines whether you are on-duty or off-duty, your actions have to be that of a police officer. You have to be acting in your official capacity to secure funding," said Dean Angelo, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7.

The Chicago Police Department and FBI are working a joint investigation.

Chicago police confirm that the two officers have been relieved of their police powers and reassigned to paid desk duty while the investigation is being conducted. Supt. Garry McCarthy attended a regular meeting for the police board on Thursday night, but did not mention the investigation.

The FBI will not comment about the investigation, but it is a federal case at this point.
