2 children found dead inside Kenosha home, police say
Police in southeast Wisconsin are investigating after they say the bodies of two young children were found inside a Kenosha home early Saturday morning.

KENOSHA, Wis. (WLS) -- A family in southeast Wisconsin is trying to come to grips with a gruesome discovery after a father found his two children dead inside their own rooms and their mother bleeding inside their Kenosha home early Saturday morning.

Police are not saying much about the investigation, only that the public is not in danger.

Police have not given a cause of death from the children, who were discovered in the home on the 5000-block of 33rd Avenue around 3:15 a.m. Saturday.

Family members say the mother is responsible and that she also tried to take her own life.

The father of the two children made the initial discovery. Javier Arellano talked with ABC7 Eyewitness News about the moment he knew his 1-year-old son Javier and 3-year-old daughter Lucia were dead.

"I grabbed them, they weren't breathing, they were so cold," he said through a translator.

Sitting nearby was their mother, Lucia Hernandez, who was covered in blood.

"I remember asking her what she had done," Arellano said. "She said she didn't know. She said I was now free."

Arellano said Hernandez suffered from depression, but never did he imagine he would wake up in the middle of the night to find his children dead.

"I thought they were sleeping," he said. "I started yelling, 'Not my kids!'"

Saturday night Hernandez's brother said he is in shock.

"I can't understand what happened. It was a dream. A bad dream," Jose Hernandez said.

Jose Hernandez said he did not know his sister suffered from depression or any mental illness and he did not see any warning signs.

"She was depressed and she felt alone," Arellano said.

Police have not said how they believe the children died and Lucia Hernandez has not been charged with any crime as of Saturday night. She remains in the hospital recovering from injuries to her arms, her family said.

Family members said they are now trying to raise money for a proper burial for the children.
