2 dead, 19 wounded in weekend shootings

Two men were killed and at least 19 other people have been injured in shootings since Friday night.

The most recent fatal shooting happened about 11:30 p.m. Saturday in the Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Kendall Floyd, 20, was in the 3400 block of West Madison Street about 11:30 p.m. when someone in a white minivan drove up and fired shots, striking him in his head and chest, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Floyd, of the same block he was shot in, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:55 p.m., the medical examiner's office said.

About seven hours earlier, a 32-year-old man was killed in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

At 4:25 p.m., Charles Lee of the 1700 block of North Lotus Avenue was sitting in a vehicle in the 200 block of North Pine Avenue when another vehicle pulled up and someone inside opened fire, hitting Lee multiple times on his right side, police said.

He attempted to drive away but crashed, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died at 5:04 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The most recent non-fatal shooting happened Sunday morning in the Austin neighborhood.

A 24-year-old woman was in a car about 6 a.m. in the 900 block of North Lavergne Avenue with an acquaintance when she heard shots ring out and realized she had been struck, police said. Her acquaintance dropped the woman off at Loretto Hospital, where she was listed in good condition.

A few minutes before 4 a.m. Sunday, a man was shot in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood.

The man, 23, walked in to Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds, police said. He was listed there in "stable" condition. He told police he had been shot in the 4600 block of West Diversey Avenue, police said.

Less than 20 minutes earlier, a 19-year-old man was shot while sitting in his vehicle in the Chatham neighborhood.

The man was in his parked vehicle about 3:40 a.m. in the 8100 block of South Drexel Avenue, when someone walked up and fired multiple shots, striking the man in his leg, police said. The man then drove off and crashed in to a parked car, police said. He got out of the vehicle and ran to the 7900 block of South Ingleside Avenue in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood, where he notified police of the shooting, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was listed in "stable" condition.

At least 16 other people have been injured in shootings across the city since Friday night.

No one is in custody for any of the shootings as area detectives investigate.
