CHICAGO (WLS) -- A police chase and crash in Chicago has been linked to a home invasion in the suburbs.

Police said a call from inside the home in the 4500-block of Pulaski in Lyons helped lead to arrests in the case. Police said two men stormed into a home, held up the homeowners and ended up leading police on an hour-long chase that ended in the Englewood neighborhood.

Susan Ortega said she and her boyfriend were stunned to see a heavy police presence on their street.

"We both said out loud, 'Oh my god, what's happening?' We got nervous. Just because we're so quiet here. We keep to ourselves," Ortega said.

Police said that around 7:15 p.m. Monday, two armed men burst into the home and held up the two homeowners. They said while the robbers were rummaging through the house, the couple's daughter was in an upstairs bedroom and called 911. Police credit her with helping them get to the scene quickly.

"She stayed on the line very calm. I mean, think about it, two armed people were in her home and had her parents on the first floor," Lyons Police Chief Jim Keating said.

Police got to the scene just as the suspects were getting into a silver car. They led police on a hour-long chase to the Stevenson Expressway, then the Dan Ryan, where they crashed at 65th and Wentworth.

Residents said that even though criminal activity is unusual for their neighborhood, they will pay more attention to their safety.

"You always think that where you live is safe until something like this happens. And this is a small block so of course it's really close to me," said Max Gonzales, a neighbor.

Both suspects were taken into custody at 65th and Wentworth. Charges are pending.

Police said they are investigating whether the homeowners were targeted.
