8 hospitalized after West Side porch collapse

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Several people were injured in a porch collapse on the city's West Side Sunday evening.

It happened during a birthday party at a home in the 700 block of North St. Louis in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.

A witness says at least a dozen people, including eight small children, gathered on the porch to take a photo when the porch suddenly gave way.

"The scene was chaotic," said witness Betty Boyd. "It just happened so quick it was just something that you see and you're like, okay this can't happen to us, but it mean it just happened so quick."

Eight people were taken to area hospitals. One woman is in serious condition.
