8 injured in crash involving school bus, motorcycle on Far South Side

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Eight people were injured after a crash involving a school bus and a motorcycle on the Far South Side Monday morning, Chicago police said.

Police said they responded to a crash at the intersection of 109th Street and Wabash Avenue at about 6:44 a.m. Chopper 7HD flew over the scene as ambulances responded to the scene.

A 37-year-old man who was driving the motorcycle was transported to Christ Hospital in serious condition. All seven people injured on the bus, a 50-year-old woman, a 19-year-old man, two 17-year-old boys, a 16-year-old boy, a 15-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, were transported to hospitals in stable condition.

Chicago Public Schools said that all five students from the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences are in good condition.

Michael Johnson, the brother of the motorcycle driver, said his brother was on the way to work.

"My first reaction was: Is he alive? The bike looks terrible and I know most of the time when a bike is hit it looks really, really bad...but my concern now is his condition," Johnson said.

It is not clear what caused the crash. Police are investigating.
