Aurora police release images of man accused in attempted abductions

AURORA, Ill. (WLS) -- Aurora police have released a surveillance photo and a composite sketch of two men wanted in connection with two attempted abductions of teenage girls that took place approximately two weeks apart.

Investigators said it is unclear if the two incidents are related, but they happened just blocks apart and the two female victims are similar in age.

According to police, the first incident took place on July 2 around 11:30 a.m. Police say a 13-year-old girl was walking in the area of New York and Union streets when the suspect pulled up alongside her in an older model blue four-door car. When her conversation with the man alarmed her, police said she ran into a McDonalds and sat by a family. The girl said the man followed her into the restaurant. Police believe the man left after seeing her with the family.

Police said the second attempted abduction took place on July 13 around 10:05 p.m. Police said a 15-year-old girl was approached in the area of Root and New York streets by a man who got out of a dark-colored vehicle. Police say the girl ignored the suspect when he tried to start a conversation, and that he grabbed her as she was walking away. The man let her go when she began to scream, ran to his vehicle and fled, official say.

The girl described the man as 20-25 years old, 5-feet-10-inches tall and 180 pounds. She said he was wearing a black and brown T-shirt with a yellow reflective vest, similar to a construction vest, over the shirt, dirty blue jeans and tan work boots. Police said the man's vehicle was late model, possibly green and was similar to a Honda Civic or Accord. Police have released a composite sketch of the man.
