Bicyclist killed in car crash near Midway Airport

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A bicyclist was killed early Sunday morning after being hit by a car in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood near Midway Airport. His identity has not been released.

The 44-year-old man was riding his bicycle eastbound on 55th Street around 12:45 a.m. when a 2011 Chevrolet Impala turning onto Central Avenue struck him, police said. The man was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the driver of the car was Elizabeth Lara Salas, 37, of Chicago. She has been cited with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. No charges have yet been filed. Police are still investigating the incident.
