FOX LAKE, Ill. (WLS) -- Police are investigating in Lake County, Ill. after officers found the bodies of a 57-year-old Fox Lake woman and a dog near Nippersink Lake on Saturday, police said.
Fox Lake police responded to a report of a deceased dog in the water near the 200-block of Leisure Drive at 2:45 p.m., police said. Officers discovered the body of a woman along the shoreline prior to recovering the body of the dog.
The woman has been identified as Mary Anton of Fox Lake, police said. Anton was reported missing by her son on Friday evening after he went to check on her and did not find her home.
Investigators determined after talking with neighbors that Anton was last seen at about noon Friday. Her phone and purse were found in the home.
Police said there were no signs of foul play and there is no threat to the community. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
