Boy, 7, ticketed for driving golf cart in Texas

GALVESTON, Texas -- A 7-year-old faces a hefty fine, ticketed for driving a golf cart while celebrating his birthday in Galveston.

The stillness of Galveston's West End is what keeps the Knight family vacationing there every year.

"We always find good treasure," said seven-year-old Clayton Knight, Junior.

Clayton and his mom went searching for treasure Thursday along the shoreline with CJ at the wheel of a golf cart, when a Galveston police officer stopped them.

"When he said he was going to give a ticket, I figured it would've been for me," said CJ's mom, Amanda Knight.

It wasn't. The officer cited her seven-year-old child.

"I was shocked. I've never heard of a seven-year-old getting a ticket," said Amanda. "He was worried he was going to go to jail."

"He made me write my name on the ticket thing," said CJ. "I was scared."

In Galveston, you have to be a licensed driver to operate a golf cart in designated areas and if you let somebody under 16 behind the wheel, you're breaking the law. Still when we told Galveston police Chief Henry Porretto about CJ's case, he agreed. It shouldn't have happened.

CJ's court date is set for October 4. The chief told us they will work with the family to straighten out this mistake.
