WHITING, Ind. (WLS) -- Emergency crews in northwest Indiana are searching Lake Michigan for a missing teenager after authorities say he disappeared while swimming with three other teens near Whihala Beach County Park in Whiting.
Search boats have been on the water and search helicopters have been in the air conducting an aerial search Monday night.
The U.S. Coast Guard has been involved in the search, as is the Indiana Conservation Police.
The call for help came around 7 p.m. Monday night. The Coast Guard said four people in their late teens jumped in the water from a fishing pier. All but one of the teens made it back to shore and search crews are looking for a teenage boy.
The shallow water surrounding the area has made it tough for Coast Guard vessels to get into the search perimeter.
The search is being spearheaded by multiple first responder agencies, including the Whiting Fire Department and the Cedar Lake Fire Department.
