CTA bus stop destroyed after police chase

A west suburban Addison man faces a litany of charges after he led a police chase that ended in a crash on the Near West Side, resulting in four people -- including two children -- going to the hospital Saturday night.

Kristian Hoodenbach, 23, faces one felony count of aggravated fleeing, one municipal count of having a replica of a firearm, a pellet gun, and three traffic citations for disobeying two red lights and using an alley as a through street, according to a statement from Chicago Police.

About 11:25 p.m. Saturday, police saw a Hoodenbach driving a vehicle through an alley, using it as a through street, near the 1200 block of South Homan Avenue, police said.

Officers pulled his vehicle over and walked toward it, spotting what they believed to be a handgun inside the vehicle, police said. The man drove off as officers approached.

As police chased him, Hoodenbach drove through a couple of red lights before he crashed his vehicle into another vehicle in the 2400 block of West Roosevelt Road, police said. His vehicle then crashed in to a bus shelter.

A 28-year-old woman and a 2-year-old girl were in the vehicle that was hit, according to Fire Media Affairs. They were taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where the woman was listed in serious-to-critical condition, and the 2-year-old was in "stable" condition.

Police said another adult and child were also taken to the hospital, but all patients were in good condition. The two children were taken to the hospital for observation purposes, police said.

Another person at the scene refused medical treatment, fire officials said.

Hoodenbach, of the 400 block of Cherry Hill Drive in Addison, was not injured in the crash, police said. He is expected to appear in bond court Sunday.
