The death of a 3-year-old girl in the city's Little Village neighborhood has been ruled a homicide.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A person was in custody in connection with the murder of a 3-year-old girl early Sunday in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

At about 1:10 a.m., police found the toddler unresponsive in an apartment in the 2500-block of South Homan, Chicago police said.

The girl, identified as Jazebel Aleman, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:26 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Authorities did not immediately say what led up to the girl's death, but neighbors said they heard arguing in the third-floor apartment.

An autopsy Sunday found she died of multiple injuries in an assault, and her death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner's office.

Charges were pending Sunday night, police said.
