Elgin animal control officer pleads guilty to theft for lotto tickets

ELGIN, Ill. (WLS) -- A love of lottery tickets apparently drove a former Elgin animal control officer to steal $6,000 from the Elgin Police Department.



James Rog pleaded guilty to theft charges Thursday, admittnig he stole $6,000 from the department's Police Explorer Post while he oversaw the program.



Rog presented a check for the amount to the city of Elgin at a hearing. He also agreed to a sentence of conditional discharge and was ordered to get a gambling addiction evaluation.
