Dwright Boone-Doty charged in Tyshawn Lee murder

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago Police say they have identified the man who pulled the trigger in the murder of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee. Authorities previously named three men who they say worked as a team to murder Tyshawn, but it was unclear which one fired the fatal shots.

The Cook County State's Attorney's office said Dwright Boone-Doty is charged with five felony charges in connection with three separate cases, including First Degree Murder for the death of Tyshawn Lee.

Boone-Doty is additionally charged with first degree murder, attempted first degree murder and aggravated battery in the murder and attempted murder of Brianna Jenkins and Deshari Bowens on Oct. 18, 2015, the State's Attorney's office said.

He was arrested in November 2015 for unlawful delivery of an illegal firearm. He has not yet posted bond and remains in custody.

Police say Lee was targeted, lured from a playground into an alley where he was shot repeatedly and killed in November 2015. The fourth grader's basketball was found nearby. Then-Superintendent Garry McCarthy said police believed the murder was part of a series of gang-related shootings.

Police say they believe three men were involved.

On Nov. 27, police charged Corey Morgan, 27, with murder in Lee's death. Police say Morgan lured the boy from a nearby park and into the alley where he was gunned down.

Police are looking for Kevin Edwards, another suspect in the murder. Edwards is believed to be hiding in Iowa, according to U.S. Marshals who said he has connections in the eastern part of the state.

A press conference with State's Attorney Anita Alvarez, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart and the Chicago FBI is planned for Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.
