CHICAGO (WLS) -- The family of a man who was shot to death by a Chicago police officer have amended their lawsuit to call it a hate crime.
Quintonio LeGrier, 19, was killed last year when police responded to a 9-1-1 call for help. The attorney for LeGrier's father says personal texts of the officer, Robert Rialmo, show racial bias. Copies of texts allegedly show one of the officer's friends and not Rialmo using racial slurs while conversing with Rialmo.
Rialmo's attorney says the racism allegations are irresponsible.
