Fox Lake prepares for funeral of fallen officer
Family, friends and police officers from across the region are expected in Fox Lake Sunday for the funeral of Lieutenant Joe Gliniewicz as the search continues for his killers.

FOX LAKE, Ill. (WLS) -- Family, friends and police officers from across the region are expected in Fox Lake Monday for the funeral of Lieutenant Joe Gliniewicz as the search continues Sunday for his killers.

The 52-year old lawman was gunned down last week after he radioed that he was in foot pursuit of three suspicious men.

A memorial for the slain officer grows as the community in the far north Chicago suburbs prepares to say a final goodbye.

A steady stream of the grief-stricken mourners flocked to the growing memorial outside the Fox Lake Police Department. Downers Grove resident Elizabeth Peters didn't know Gliniewicz, but feels his loss, especially as the daughter of a police officer.

"I just want to say I hope everyone is safe, especially knowing my dad is out there. It hits home," she said.

Gliniewicz leaves behind a wife and four sons and was a well-known figure in the community. The 30-year police veteran is being celebrated for his efforts to help kids.

Tributes and tokens of admiration for the fallen officer can be seen everywhere in the far north suburb and as people lean on one another in their time of need, many say this small community was changed because of Glinieciwz.

"We brought some flowers to drop off to show our respects for the officer," said Jeff Pawelka. "We want to support the community."

Authorities recovered security camera video from several area homes and businesses, hoping the recordings will provide some clues about the suspects.
