Merrionette Park garage fire under investigation

MERRIONETTE PARK, Ill. (WLS) -- A garage was gutted by fire in south suburban Merrionette Park.

The Cook County Sheriff's Office said the fire broke out in the 3700-block West 116th Place around 4:30 a.m. Thursday. A woman was inside the residence - a separate building - at the time of the fire, but got out safely.

One garage to the east and one garage to the west had fire damage but did not sustain structural damage, according to the sheriff's office. The siding of the house was also damaged. Firefighters struck out the blaze by 5:45 a.m.

Investigators said there were propane tanks inside the garage and they're looking into whether the blast involved any foul play.
