Glendale Heights school closed by reported bomb threat

GLENDALE HEIGHTS, Ill. (WLS) -- Students arriving Thursday morning to an elementary school in the west suburbs were not allowed in after a reported bomb threat.

On Thursday at 7:40 a.m., the Glendale Heights Police Department received a report of a bomb threat at Americana Intermediate School, 1629 President Street, which serves fourth and fifth graders..

At the time of the reported threat, school was not in session. Upon their arrival, teachers and students were evacuated.

Queen Bee School District 16, which includes four schools, contacted parents and notified them that they may pick up their students at Glenside Middle School.

Students who are not picked up will be dismissed on their normal schedule time.

The Glendale Heights Police Department is working in cooperation with Queen Bee School District 16, Glenside Fire Department, and the DuPage County Bomb Squad to inspect the building and return students and faculty to the school as quickly as possible.
