CHICAGO (WLS) -- No one was injured in a fire at a historic high-rise in the Loop. Flames could be seen shooting from the top floor of the 14-story New York Life Insurance Building near Monroe and LaSalle.

Dozens of firefighters responded to the fire early Tuesday morning. Crews were able to stop the flames from spreading beyond that top floor.

An investigation is underway into what may have started this fire.

The historic building, built in 1898, is being converted into a hotel. It was designed by William Le Baron Jenney, the father of American skyscrapers.

Jenney designed the very first skyscraper: the ten-story Home Insurance Building, located less than two blocks south of the New York Life building.
