Keller in court on murder charges
Jeffrey Keller appeared in court Wednesday on first-degree murder charges.

Jeffrey Keller, 51, appeared in court Wednesday on charges of first-degree murder. The Hinsdale businessman is accused of killing Nate Fox, 37, in a made-up love triangle.

If convicted, he faces a sentence of 45 years to life in prison.

Prosecutors said Keller was having an affair with a woman he mistakenly thought Fox was also dating. After stalking Fox for several days, Keller allegedly shot him twice during a jealous rage at Fox's Bloomingdale home in December 2014.

Keller, who appeared calm and composed in court Wednesday, was charged last week. His attorney collected several discs from prosecutors, evidence seized from 25 search warrants.

"They've outlined a case against Jeffrey. Right now we're denying everything. I have to see what they say and what the evidence is. It can be two different things," defense attorney Paul DeLuca said. " It's what the evidence is going to show and I don't know what the evidence is yet."

Keller is being held without bond, but after reviewing the evidence, DeLuca said he may ask the judge to consider setting bail.

Keller's family is supporting him, according to DeLuca, although his business is falling into financial distress and Keller's wife is unable to pay tuition for one of their four children.

"The police seized apparently mail and some personal cash from him and accounting books that have no relationship whatsoever to the allegations and that's what we're trying to get back for the family and whoever's running the business at this point," DeLuca said.

Fox was a former professional basketball player for the European league. He was engaged to be married.

Keller is scheduled to appear in court next on March 3.
