Lincoln-Way Central High School lockdown lifted

NEW LENOX, Ill. (WLS) -- The lockdown at Lincoln-Way Central High School in southwest suburban New Lenox was lifted after about three hours Friday morning.

The Will County sheriff's office said there is no threat to students or staff. School administrators said Friday's normal schedule has resumed.

District 210 officials said police received a report just before 8 a.m. about a person carrying an unidentified object walking east along Route 30, which is a main road near the school. The sheriff's office said a parent reported seeing a student walking into the school with a black object in his or her hand. It is unclear what the object was.

The Will County Sheriff's Office advised the school resource officer to put the school on lockdown while investigators look into the report and review surveillance video.

About 100 students who were not already inside the school were held outside. Bus drivers were asked to wait in a parking lot nearby.

"The safety of our students is our top concern," district officials said on Lincoln-Way Central's website.
