LYONS, Ill. (WLS) -- A boy is recovering after being attacked by two pit bulls Monday morning as he was walked to a bus stop in suburban Lyons.

The dogs live in the neighborhood, and now the boy's mother wants the dogs removed.

Yevion Joyner was on his way to school when he ended up needing to be rushed to the hospital. The 12-year old was attacked by his neighbors' two pit bulls as he was walking to the bus stop.

"I saw two dogs come running toward me and right there I started to run and they were so big, they jumped on me and I fell," said Yevion.

The dogs ripped his clothes and tore into his skin. He suffered scratches to his nose and needed stitches in his lip and arm.

Yevion says he's seen the dogs loose in the neighborhood before, and has taken care to avoid them. But for some reason that morning, he ended up being a target.

"I never thought it would be me to get attacked," said Yevion.

Yevion says a bystander stepped in and helped get him to safety by putting him in a car until an ambulance came.

Yevion's mother Yoko Joyner was at work when she got a phone call about the attack and dropped everything.

"I was running lights, stop signs, I didn't know what to do because nothing like his has ever happened," said Yoko Joyner, mother.

Yevion needed multiple stitches in the hospital, some to repair a gaping wound to his arm.

"It was horrible. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I wouldn't wish it on anybody," said Yoko Joyner.

Lyons police say the dogs were taken to a Berwyn veterinary clinic for observation. If they don't have rabies, they could be returned to their owner.

Yoko Joyner says the dogs should not come back, or in the very least, be better restrained.

"Keep them on a leash. Get a higher gate. Respect people that you live around," said Yoko Joyner.

The owner was issued a fine and two citations, one per dog, and will appear in a Bridgeview court next month.
