Mail carrier attacked by pit bull in Carpentersville

CARPENTERSVILLE, Ill. (WLS) -- A mail carrier is recovering after a pit bull bit her in northwest suburban Carpentersville.

The 50-year-old woman was delivering mail to a home on Alameda Drive around 12:45 p.m. Thursday when the dog jumped through a screen door and attacked her. The owner rushed to help her after the dog broke out.

The mail carrier has bites and cuts on her arm and head. She was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin for treatment.

Carpentersville Animal Control is holding the dog. Observation of the dog is scheduled at Dundee Animal Hospital.

Police are investigating the incident. No charges have been filed against the dog owner.
