Man dies after falling from 5th-floor window in Edgewater

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man died after falling out a fifth-story window Thursday morning in the Edgewater neighborhood on the North Side.

The 21-year-old man fell out a fifth-floor window about 4:50 a.m. in the 1000 block of West Berwyn, according to Chicago Police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the death Thursday morning. A body could be seen covered on the south sidewalk of Berwyn with a screen nearby. The person appeared to have fallen from a north-facing window at the Foster Beach Apartments at 5250 N. Sheridan.

Area North detectives are conducting a death investigation.

Berwyn is closed between Sheridan and Kenmore, causing reroutes of some CTA buses that serve the Berwyn Red Line station, including some Lake Shore express buses and the No. 92 Foster bus.
