Man shot by Chicago police found hiding under stranger's bed

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago police shot a man who allegedly pointed a gun after a foot chase in the 1000 block of N. Laramie.

Officers were on a gang suppression mission at 9:40 pm. Monday when a man approached the vehicle, police said. Officers announced they were police and exited the vehicle to conduct a field interview when the man fled, according to the Chicago Police Department, and they followed. The man fell, dropping a gun from his waistband, and then, after picking it up, pointed it at officers, police said.

An officer then shot at the man, who was hit the arm. No one else was injured.

The offender fled on foot and entered an apartment building through an open window. He was found hiding under a bed.

"Officers go to the door as they're searching for this offender. The folks at the home state they think someone's in the home. The officers go in and subsequently do a search of the home and find the subject as he's hiding under the bed. A weapon was recovered in the home," Deputy Chief Dana Alexander said.

The man was taken to the hospital, where his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
