Isaac Acevedo, 23, was killed early Thursday in Logan Square on his way home from his second job.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 23-year-old man on his way home from his second job at Walgreens was shot early Thursday when a white SUV pulled up beside him and opened fire, police said.

Isaac Acevedo died at the scene of the shooting near Schubert and North Central Park in Logan Square, officials said. His girlfriend, who was driving his car, was injured by broken glass.

Police have no one in custody.

Police said Acevedo had no criminal background or any gang affiliations. He may have been a victim of mistaken identity.

The girlfriend said she had noticed someone following them in a Jeep Cherokee and when they got to a stop sign, someone opened fire.

By Thursday afternoon, near where the shooting occurred Kristina Waktine brought balloons on which she wrote, "Rest in Peace Isaac." She also lit two candles.

"When I received the news I can't believe it," said Kristina Waktine, a friend of Acevedo from high school. "He's not involved in these things. He's a very nice person. He doesn't do none of these street things. He works a lot. Two jobs to help his family

As the oldest child in his family, relatives said Acevedo would always come home to help his parents and two younger sisters. His father was recently diagnosed with a tumor and couldn't work. As a result, much of Acevedo's salary from his other job as a welder, went to his family.

Waktine said she will always remember her friend as a funny guy who loved to joke around.

"I hope they find him or her whoever did this," she said. "I pray to God that they find that person."
