Police arrest man wearing bulletproof vest near Riverside school

RIVERSIDE, Ill. (WLS) -- Police arrested a man wearing a bulletproof vest near a school in suburban Riverside. Witnesses say he was lurking around the playground of Saint Mary's School.

Police say Jeffrey Waiman Wo of San Francisco tried to get a tour of the campus. They say he told them he was wearing the bulletproof vest because the FBI was trying to kill him.

He also claimed that he used to work for the FBI and that the bureau was out to get him.

Once arrested, Wo told police he traveled from California to Illinois to investigate "hidden lights inside of old buildings."

Wo went on to say that he had traveled specifically to Illinois because it is the home of President Barack Obama. He told investigators he had flown from San Francisco to Chicago's Midway Airport late last week and then found transportation at Union Station in Chicago. He then rode the train to Riverside, walked to Lyons and had been renting a room at the Roadway Inn Motel located in the 8600 block of Ogden Avenue in Lyons, police said. He told police he was in Illinois to investigate "the lights," which were controlled by the government.

While in police custody, police were able to recover $24,000.00 in cash in his front left pocket.

Police say Wo made statements that he may have been in other churches or preschools in the area.

Wo was charged with one count of disorderly conduct. Police say Wo was not charged with any other crimes, as it is not illegal in Illinois to wear a bulletproof vest unless you are armed and in the commission of a crime. At no time was Wo armed, police said.

After posting bond, Wo was transported to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn for a medical evaluation, police said. Wo has no criminal history, police said.
