McHenry County deputies honored with Award of Valor, Purple Heart

WOODSTOCK, Ill. (WLS) -- Several officers of the McHenry County Sheriff's office were honored Tuesday for work on a shooting call that set off a 15-hour manhunt last month.

Deputy Eric Luna, credited with saving the lives of two of his fellow officers shot in the line of duty, was honored with the Award of Valor. The award is given for acts of exceptional bravery, and heroism.

Purple Heart awards went to the officers shot in the line of duty, Deputy Dwight Maness, and Deputy Khalia Satkiewicz.

This was the first time the sheriff's office has issued the Award of Valor and Purple Heart. The awards were created in 2010.

"There were also people behind the scenes, in the dispatch center, in the records division, detectives, who are gathering information, getting search warrants, doing the things that need to be done to support those people who are actually working on the scene<" said McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren.

The man accused of shooting those two deputies, Scott Peters, is charged with multiple felonies, including first-degree attempted murder.
