Pedestrian killed in Des Plaines hit-and-run

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 31-year-old woman walking along Central Road was struck and killed by a vehicle in northwest suburban Des Plaines.

Police received a call from a driver just before 4 a.m. Wednesday, who noticed a woman's body lying on the north side of Central Road, east of River Road. Responding officers found the woman dead at the scene.

The victim was identified as Vanessa Colon, 31, of the 9900-block of Holly Lane in Des Plaines.

Police said Colon was walking eat on Central Road when she was struck by a vehicle traveling in the same direction. Investigators do not have any further information on the vehicle or the driver.

Officers shut down Central Road in both directions between River Road and East River road for several hours on Wednesday, as they conducted their investigation.
