Photos released of 3 accused in CTA Green Line attempted robbery

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Surveillance photos of the three men accused of attempted to rob a woman inside the 43rd street CTA Green Line station last month were released on Monday.

The Chicago Police Department also issued a community alert after the attack.

The men attempted to steal Morgan Williams' cellphone shortly before 8 p.m. Jan. 29. Williams said that she first noticed the offenders while downtown when they got on her Green Line train. Then, they split up and sat in three different sections.

When she arrived at the 43rd Street station, the males followed her from the train then struck her and attempted to take her phone.

"All of a sudden one tried to take my phone out of my hand," Williams said. "He pushed me down, jumped on me, threw me to the ground, and started punching me in the side of my head repeatedly over and over again. I screamed for help."

They did not get her phone and ran away. Williams sustained minor injuries.

She said she felt like she did the right thing when she felt threatened - stayed in the station and stood next to an attendant, but was attacked anyways.

The CTA said there has been a 25-percent decrease in crime on trains and buses. The mayor credited an investment in surveillance cameras. But to Williams' attackers, the cameras were no deterrent.

The offenders are described as black and between the ages of 16 and 20. They were between 6-feet and 6-feet-3-inches tall, weighing between 160 and 200 pounds.

Williams said the men were wearing hoodies or jackets with a hood.
