2 planes slide off pavement at O'Hare

Two planes slid off the pavement at O'Hare International Airport Tuesday afternoon amid inclement weather.

A small corporate jet slid off a runway around 12:30 p.m. The Embraer Phenom E55P plane operated by NetJets was attempting to land at the time.

Chicago fire officials say no one was injured. The 9-Left runway where that incident took place was closed for an hour and a half.

At 12:09 p.m., an American MD83, Flight 1051, which was departing O'Hare en route to Newark, requested a tow from the end of Taxiway J after sliding. The plane, with 65 passengers, was scheduled to be de-iced and then head to Newark.

The FAA is continuing to investigate.

The incidents come as 570 flights have been cancelled at O'Hare with up to 90-minute delays. Midway Airport has cancelled 70 flights and is reporting delays of up to 30 minutes. The scheduling changes have created a snag in plans for many travelers such as Denice Simon, who is heading to Majorca.

"The flight's delayed about three hours, it means I'm going to miss my connecting flight in Madrid," Simon said.
