CHICAGO (WLS) -- A pregnant woman was killed and a man was critically wounded in a South Chicago neighborhood shooting Sunday evening, police said.
Family identified the woman as 19-year-old Parasha Beard. She was due in December, family said.
On Sunday night the baby was at Northwestern Memorial Hospital but the baby's condition is unknown.
Shortly after 6 p.m., the pair were sitting in a car parked in the 8700-block of South Marquette when another vehicle pulled alongside them and a gunman with dreadlocks opened fire, according to Chicago Police.
The 19-year-old woman was shot in the neck, and the 26-year-old man in the neck and chest. They were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she died, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office did not immediately confirm the death.
A law enforcement source said the woman was pregnant. The condition of the baby was unknown.
The man was in critical condition, according to the Chicago Fire Department. Police said he has documented gang ties.
No one was in custody Sunday night as Area South detectives investigate.
