Rainbow PUSH calls on Obama to monitor Chicago Police Dept.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- President Obama is being called on to address the crisis in the Chicago Police Department.

The Rainbow PUSH Coalition wants the president to visit Chicago and make monitoring the department a top priority.

The organization says the recently-released Police Accountability Task Force report shows there needs to be more transparency in the department and that accusations of racism need to be addressed.

"There's no city in America with a police force as large as, and as corrupt as, the criminal justice system in Chicago. Between being racially profiled, whether black or brown, and then able to file false reports," said Rev. Jesse Jackson.

The coalition is also urging Mayor Rahm Emanuel and other city leaders to support reform for releasing all police crime scene video and incident reports in a timely fashion. The Justice Department is already investigating CPD in the wake of the Laquan McDonald shooting.
