Sheriff officers on scene of Laquan McDonald shooting; no report filed

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Two Cook County Sheriff's Department officers were at the scene after Laquan McDonald was fatally shot in October 2014 by Chicago Police Officer Jason Van Dyke.

However, neither filed a report and the Chicago Tribune reports that Chicago police told them to leave.

The sheriff's department said Officer Adam Murphy, who is seen on dash-cam video, comforted McDonald while waiting for an ambulance to arrive.

In a statement on Thursday, the sheriff's office said the officers "offered to assist the Chicago Police Department with traffic control or in securing the scene and were told their assistance was not needed."

The statement said the officers were on the scene for 10 minutes before they "notified dispatch and resumed their patrols in suburban Cook County."

According to the sheriff's office, Murphy and Officer Jeff Pasqua were contacted by the FBI in July about the shooting and fully cooperated.
