JOLIET, Ill. -- Will County authorities say a U.S. Postal Service driver was killed in a crash southwest of Chicago.

The county coroner's office said 48-year-old Daniel McGuire of Channahon died Thursday. A Will County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman says McGuire drove his mail truck off a road and onto the shoulder before crossing the center line and striking a Culligan water truck head-on near Joliet. McGuire was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner's office says an autopsy is scheduled. It's unclear what caused McGuire to lose control of the vehicle.

The spokeswoman says the 32-year-old male driver of the water truck wasn't injured.

She says the Illinois State Motor Carrier Safety Division was called to the scene to inspect the mail truck.
