CHICAGO (WLS) -- At least three shots were fired at a tow truck on the northbound Dan Ryan Expressway near 28th Street on Chicago's South Side overnight.

Illinois State Police said bullets riddled door of the black tow truck around 11 p.m. Sunday, just south of the I-55 southbound ramp.

No one was injured. It's not clear if the tow truck or the driver were the intended targets.

Expressway shootings have been an ongoing problem in the Chicago area. There have been 26 shootings on local expressways so far this year, compared to 19 shootings this time last year.

One week ago, shots were fired at a car on the outbound Kennedy Expressway near Sayre Avenue. No one was hurt, but all of the outbound lanes were closed for hours during the morning commute.

Expressway patrols doubled over the weekend, in a new effort to stem the shootings. Thirty-five officers focused on the Dan Ryan and Eisenhower expressways.
