HOUSTON -- Houston police are investigating a tragic homicide. They say an innocent woman was shot in her own apartment while sleeping around 11:30pm last night. Investigators say a stray bullet struck the woman in her bed.

Officers were called to the Williamstown Apartments located at 9200 Bissonnet at S Braeswood.

Homicide detectives say two suspects were shooting at each other in the apartment complex parking lot. Stray bullets went flying in all directions. Some of those bullets shot through downstairs apartment units. No one was hurt.

However, another stray bullet went flying further down the parking lot into a second floor bedroom window. Maria Asuncion Soto Garcia, 61, was struck by that bullet while lying in bed. She screamed to her husband that she had been shot and then she collapsed. Garcia died at the scene.

The family released this photo of the victim.
