United planes that Ebola patient took have been in Chicago since Sept. 20th

The I-Team has learned new information about the jetliners that brought the first U.S. Ebola victim to this country.

Not only were the planes flown by Chicago-based United Airlines, but the aircraft have been in Chicago since then.

When we learned late Wednesday that the Ebola victim flew on United Airlines, the I-Team began tracking the planes that he was on to see where they were after he was on them. Even though health officials maintain there is no risk to passengers, if you were a passenger on a plane that had carried an Ebola victim, it might be something you would want to know.

"The executives at DFW have looked at the flights and examined exactly what happened at that time," said Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings. "And they feel there is zero chance of anyone getting contaminated."

When Thomas Eric Duncan left Liberia, he made his way to Brussels and boarded a United Airlines plane for the US.

Here is what we know about the planes he took and the routing:

On Sept. 20, Duncan took a United Boeing 777 from Brussels to Washington Dulles and arrived at 2:36 p.m.

According to flight records, Duncan had three hours on the ground at Dulles, clearing customs and then boarding his connecting flight, a United Airbus 320 from Washington to Dallas that departed 5:29 p.m.

Since then, based on their tail numbers, those exact two aircraft have carried passengers to 27 different cities.

According to flight records, the 777 that flew the overseas leg was in Chicago on Sept. 29.

The airbus was in Chicago several times on Sept. 26-28 and is scheduled to be here Thursday.

Authorities continue to maintain there is no risk to passengers who were on the planes with the Ebola patient or to anyone in the planes since then.

United confirms that the Ebola patient being treated in Texas was on two of their flights. The director of Centers for Disease Control says there is "zero risk of transmission on any flight which the patient flew because he was not symptomatic until several days after his trip and could not have been contagious on the dates he traveled."

Six days later, Duncan walked into an emergency room in Dallas, but a nurse allowed him to go home without reporting it to her superiors.

"That nurse was part of a care team and that complex care team was taking care of him in the ER," says Dr. Mark Lester of Texas Health Resources. "Regretfully, that information was not fully communicated throughout the full team. And as a result, the full import of that information was not factored in to the clinical decision making."

In Texas, federal health investigators continue to arrive. Now 18 people are being monitored after having come in contact with Duncan, from the three paramedics who transported him to the doctors and nurses at the hospital, to his family, including five children who were potentially exposed.

One group not being tracked is passengers who flew on the two planes that Duncan had been on. The 777 that was in Chicago on Monday and the Airbus that was here several times is due here again Thursday.
