Vigil held for 2 brothers who drowned in Hobart

HOBART, Ind. (WLS) -- A candlelight vigil was held Wednesday night for two brothers who drowned in northwest Indiana. The accident happened in a pit that had filled with rain water.

Terrion and Donel Smith died Saturday night while playing with other children on the Hobart, Ind. property.

The boy's mother says Terrion went under first, and Donel jumped in to try to save him.

Police say the water was at least 12 feet deep. The pit has now been drained and filled.
