Wheaton attorney accused of stealing more than $2M from clients

WHEATON, Ill. (WLS) -- Bond has been set for a Wheaton attorney accused of stealing more than $2 million from clients, DuPage County State's Attorney officials said.

Robert Beck, 48, allegedly bilked trusts of the estates of four deceased former clients and three current clients out of approximately $1 million between July 2011 and January 2015, officials said. That money was then allegedly used for Beck's personal and business expenses as well as to pay back the estate of previous victims.

Beck is also accused of allegedly shifting $1.26 million between trusts, using one to pay heirs of another to cover up the alleged thefts.

Investigation into Beck began when a bank investigator became suspicious and contacted Will County authorities, officials said.

Beck has been charged with one count of theft over $1,000,000. Bond was set Wednesday at $250,000 with 10 percent to apply.
