VILLA PARK, Ill. (WLS) -- A teacher's aide at Willowbrook High School in Villa Park has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of criminal assault of a 16-year-old student at her residence in Bolingbrook.

Police said Elyse Snyder has admitted to having consensual sex on two occasions in April with the student. She was charged with three felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault and two felony counts of criminal sexual abuse.

Snyder was hired in January 2015 as a full-time teacher's aide at the Willowbrook school. Since the alleged sexual encounters took place at her residence in Bolingbrook, the case is being handled by Bolingbrook police.

The school district said it contacted law enforcement after receiving information about the alleged inappropriate relationship.

"The school administration has created an environment, along with the staff, where people feel free to provide information when they sense something like this. As soon as they sensed it the administration got news, and because of the nature of it we were instructed through DuPage County, all the work we've done, and the Villa Park police, we contacted police immediately," said Dr. Scott Helton, DuPage High School District 88 Superintendent.

The school district said Snyder has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the case. Police said she is currently being held at the Will County Jail.
