CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 60-year-old woman was rescued from a basement apartment after a fire broke out in the 8100-block of South Vincennes Avenue, according to Chicago Fire Media.

The fire started in the two-story building around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday in Chicago's Gresham neighborhood. The victim's niece tried to get her aunt out, but the flames spread quickly.

"I got the fire extinguisher. When I opened my outside door, the fire just started spreading. She couldn't get out the door," she said.

The woman was transported in good condition to St. Bernard Hospital for observation.

The fire was out by around 5 a.m. Firefighters completed a search of the home and found no other victims.
