CHICAGO (WLS) -- A woman was struck and killed by a speeding car exiting the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago's West Chatham neighborhood, police said.
The victim was in the crosswalk at the intersection of West 87th Street and South Lafayette Avenue around 10 p.m. Sunday.
Investigators said the woman, who was in her 20s, was hit by a Volkswagen Passat that was speeding southbound off the Dan Ryan. The windshield shattered from the impact.
Police said the woman died at the scene. Her identity has not been released.
One woman, who asked to remain anonymous, said she uses the busy intersection every day. She said drivers don't like to stop for pedestrians.
"People cross and then when the cars turn, like when I'm getting off work, they don't want to stop - even coming from this end. We're supposed to walk. They don't want us to walk," she said.
The male driver, 23, and his female passenger, 24, were taken to Trinity Hospital in good condition. They were both released from the hospital into police custody Monday morning.
The Major Accidents Investigation Unit has not said whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.
Charges are pending.
