Owner of gun used in Dixon school shooting had felony conviction

DIXON, Ill. (WLS) -- Questions arose Saturday about how the mother of the Dixon High School shooter was able to obtain a weapon.

Records show that Julie Mitchell, mother of shooter Matthew Milby, had a felony conviction in Florida.

Milby, 19, used his mother's gun when he started shooting at Dixon High School. Milby was taken out by a school resource officer before any students were hurt.

Milby appeared in court Friday and pleaded not guilty.
